CARLENTINI – On the evening of 06 November 2022, the Municipal Theater of Carlentini “Turi Ferro” with the artistic direction of Alfio Breci, opens the Theater season. Onlookers who are curious and eager to start a new artistic path in the beautiful setting of the theater in question, underline with a warm applause the opening of the curtain on one of the most significant comedies of our day.
The Season begins with “The Tandoy Case” written and directed by Michele Guardì.
The protagonist of the opera is played by the actor Gianluca Guidi, accompanied by the actor Giuseppe Manfredi.
The scenography, the lights, the setting and the costumes accompanied the actors’ interpretation and the message of the work beautifully, in an eloquent way and perfectly in line with the creative dimension of the protagonist as a writer.
A news case will be dealt with, the murder of “Commissario Tandoy”, in a respectable Agrigento of the 1960s. A fact of blood, stained even more by the red color of passion, since initially, one followed the passionate trail of betrayal and jealousy. The instigator of the murder would have been the wife of the “Commissario” himself, as the woman would have freed herself from her husband, to live her love affair with the Director of the Asylum in Agrigento free of charge. In reality, it all resulted in a tangle of procedural intrigues. The judicial error was at the center of a complex of events that fortunately resulted in justice that did justice to itself.
All this became the starting point for Michele Guardì who, as author and director, chose the stage as a means to make this social denunciation. This, however, like any comedy, has a hint of lightness and farce.
Inevitable and constant, the reference to Pirandello’s Metateatrality, according to which “the whole world is a stage”. Maestro Luigi Pirandello, with his watchful gaze, immortalized within a pleasantly bulky frame inside the writer’s creative and imaginary studio.
“The Audience? The Audience is there … you can’t see it, you can’t hear it … but it’s there … “as the writer reiterates to one of his characters.
In this regard, the comparison with “Six characters in search of an author” arises spontaneously, by which the author himself was clearly influenced, when he stages a parade of characters looking for a role, and repeatedly compare each other with their author.
It is a complexity of characters, with different and tormented personalities and facets. Michele Guardì likes to tell this humanity with respect and irony, without ever falling into vulgarity, especially when dealing with the theme of betrayal and passion.
Spontaneously, an intimate and introspective note emerges from the writer, when he feels the need to reopen his studio, to awaken his characters, who were there sleeping among the sheets waiting for him. And it’s true… the writer, when he creates the characters and gives them their names, personifies them and gives them life, to the point of creating a personal relationship between them and himself. Hence the need to dialogue with them, forge them to make them real in the world of his creativity and endow them with feelings and emotions, to the point of worrying that they are okay. Wonderful feeling … the writer has created characters, people who will have a life, a voice, a heart, a role, a story, but … sometimes it happens that that story begins in a way and ends in a different way than it was initially conceived by the writer himself. What happened? Simply, in the course of the evolution of the story, the characters grow and transform, as if they took over the writer. The latter will be forced to follow the new flow of the characters and their feelings.
It is really all so magical and extraordinary.
At first the audience smiles and is incredulous. At the end of the play, the audience smiles satisfied and aware of the fact that only a brilliant and profoundly creative pen can make real what comes from a pure moment of immaterial inspiration.
