TRECASTAGNI – Everything comes from the warmth of a double filial embrace, from a whispered phrase and from a look that tells you “Best wishes… a special gift for you”.
Curiosity drives you, creates frenzy and the desire to discover, the desire to have a new experience, a special experience.
When you arrive in front of the green expanse, you get lost and let yourself be carried away by the vastness of the space, a space full of history, of effort, of sweat, of sacrifices, of worries, but also of great satisfactions.
These are the Nicosia Cellars in Trecastagni, inside which you can breathe an air imbued with intoxicating smells, where the fragrance of wood clings to the flavor of the must, embracing each other in a voluptuous movement and becoming a single molecule, starting a dance of bubbles that accompanied dozens of songs, celebrations, toasts and dedications that reached the hearts of all those who let themselves be carried away by the poetics of wine.
We all know, of how many famous pens the wine has been the protagonist, because it manages to enter the hearts of poets and of all men.
As Robert Louis Balfour Stevenson said: “Wine is bottled poetry”, or Galileo Galilei: “Wine is nothing if the sunlight mixed with the wetness of the vine”. And again Edmondo De Amicis: “Wine adds a smile to friendship and a spark to love”.
I would like to focus on the beautiful sentence of King Edward VII: “Wine is not only drunk. You smell, observe, taste, sip and … talk about it ”
This is exactly what happens during the tasting.All the senses are involved.
You are in front of four glasses that contain wines of different colors, the sense of sight is already called in the first place to describe their color, intensity, transparency, light. Then he reaches out his hand and delicately, almost caressing it, you take the neck of the glass and make it sway, as if to pour the noble drink. Slowly you smell it, while you squint your eyelids to begin to immerse yourself in the wonderful exploratory journey of the various tastes of wines that await you.
Already at the second sensory step, which involves the sense of smell, you feel enraptured and transported by the smells of wood, orange blossom, plants and earth. You feel enveloped in a series of thoughts, memories, poems, stories and tales that the Sicilian tradition and international literature have given us.
At that point you can’t wait to place your lips on the glass and be able to bathe them with that new flavor, sometimes mellow and enveloping, sometimes dry and pungent, sometimes fresh and bubbly, sometimes good and versatile. Like each of us, wines also have their own character and you will be able to sympathetically associate a wine with a person dear to you, whom you know very well, who only you can describe by reading a wine in all its essence.
And very often, you realize that the flavor and the characteristic change, influenced by the air, by the light and by the exposure time, the character becomes intriguing and surprising, exactly as it happens to us men, whose essence changes and enriches at every experience.
This is what it means to approach a glass of wine with modest use: the extraordinary experience of a beautiful journey with open eyes, in the meanders of the deepest flavors and aromas of the poetics of the human being.
